WHICH AIRCRAFT NEED TO BE CERTIFIED?
• Category 1. All Unmanned aircraft (RC model aircraft) that weigh 15>25kg (including fuel).
• Category 2A. All Unmanned aircraft (RC model aircraft) that weigh 25 >75kg (including fuel).
• Category 2B. All Unmanned aircraft (RC model aircraft) that weigh over75>150kg (including fuel).
• Category 3. All Unmanned aircraft (RC model aircraft) that weigh less than 15kg BUT are powered by:
• Internal combustion engine greater than 88cc,
• Turbines greater than 142N,
• Turboprops with a rated sustained output greater than 5.2kW,
• Electric motors that operate with greater than 5kW sustained input.
HOW DO I GET MY AIRCRAFT REGISTERED & CERTIFIED?
Go to the MFNZ website https://www.mfnz.org/ Large Model section and simply fill out the on-line Form A on
the web site. The Large Model Controller will then contact you with your Project registration No and invoice for
your registration plus advise on things you need to know that will assist you completing your project.
WHEN & HOW DO I RENEW MY PERMIT?
Cat 1 & 3 every 5 years, Cat 2A every 3 years and Cat 2B every year, fees for this are on the website.
You will either receive an email reminder or you can contact the Large Model Controller by emailing
lmc@mfnz.org to inquire about the permit status of your aircraft,
OR:
Go to the MFNZ website Large Model section and simply fill out the on-line Aeroplane Re-Inspection form
(or helicopter and Glider option) in conjunction with your Inspector. No Inspector? No problem just email
lmc@mfnz.org and the nearest inspector will be assigned to your renewal!
