An invitation from Simon Atkinson, Chairman of the 2023
F3A World Championships, to judge at the FAI F3A World
Championships in Warwick Australia, was a privileged
opportunity, for myself and for New Zealand F3A
aerobatics. To judge at this competition was a formidable
concept with 57 competitors, from 20 countries, entered.
It is unfortunate the entry number was low, as there were
pilots and countries that did not attend and some countries
that did not field full teams at this World Champs, which
meant there was only one panel of five judges on each of
the two flightlines. There were twelve judges in total, from
Australia, Canada, Columbia, Finland, France, Israel,
Japan, NZ, Switzerland, and USA and two on-site reserve
judges, one from the Philippines and one from Australia.
Registration and Model Processing was conducted at the
Warwick Airfield on Saturday 19 August and the Opening
Ceremony was held at the Warwick RSL Club that precise explanations with the schematic illustration and a
evening. stick model used to demonstrate manoeuvres. Attention
was given to the basic elements and common errors.
Peter Urlig from Germany, who is the President of the FAI, Interaction, discussions and questions between Peter and
conducted the Judges briefings and training, which were the judges clarified aspects of each manoeuvre. Peter
also held at the Warwick Airfield. All twelve judges, the five constantly emphasized “Loops must be round !” and you
Jury members and some organising members were in must breakdown the components of the manoeuvre –
attendance. Briefings were performed methodically with lines, loops, rolls and line/loop/roll combinations.
