Control Line Sport Scale Results Score Model
Control Line Sport Scale had eight entries. It was flown in 1. G. Wimmer 970 Fairey Firefly
956
2. D. Thornley
Gee Bee Racer
good weather and no crashes other than nose overs. As 3. A. Hamilton 886 North American Mustang
with other CL Nats events like F2B, Intermediate, 4. M. Wimmer 828 Hawker Hurricane
Douglas DC3
826
5. R. Fallas
Sportsman and Classic Stunt, it was won by another 6. N. McAnelly 810 Stinson Reliant
electric powered model. 7. O. Wimmer 732 Douglas Skyraider
8. W. Long 524 North American Mustang
Nigel McAnelly joined in the flying in this class with his
impressive Stinson Reliant as this was the only entry in
F4B. It did fly beautifully but needed to fly off the concrete
circle after breaking a prop on the grass. The speed flyers
allowed Nigel to interrupt their pulse jet flying so he could
have a quick flight. Last year there was terrible weather for
scale with models damaged. So this year Richard Fallas
had another go with his repaired DC3, but still had some
engine issues with one Taipan Diesel, cutting after a lap or
two.
Gerald Wimmer had a very good run out of his repaired
Fairey Firefly, the bigger wheels and new lighter battery
helping it taxi and perform better. David Thornley had no
trouble flying his Gee Bee Racer. William Long flew his
new Mustang that he and his father Julius built and it flew
well with Julius's help.
Otto Wimmer had finished his paintwork in the South
Vietnamese colours on his Skyraider, but was still sorting
the engine idle. Adrian Hamilton flew his Mustang well, as
usual, as did Max Wimmer with his Hurricane.
A point Judge Alina Wimmer made was that points are
missed out in Sports Scale if flyers cannot taxi or perform a
gradual take-off, as it has the highest K factor point (14)
while engine noise and smoothness of flight are only 4 or 6
K factor but a loop or figure eight is a 12 K factor as it is
much more difficult to fly especially with a heavy scale
model.
It would be nice to have a few more F4B entries next year
so it could run as a full event, but scale interest has been
growing.

Top to bottom:
Nigel McAnelly had a great flight with his Stinson Reliant when he moved
from the grass to the concrete circle.
Although it may have looked like an unlikely subject for control line
manoeuvres, the Gee Bee flown by David Thornley was very stable.
Richard Fallas getting his Douglas DC3 twin ready for a successful flight.
Otto Wimmer putting his Douglas Skyraider through its paces.
