Congratulations go to our President Kevin
Botherway. He has set the first record in a new
class of flying. Triangle Racing with RC
sailplanes has been around for a while now but
it has evolved from a large scale glider activity
to being one suitable for smaller and lighter
non scale machines much more akin to the
electric 4 meter contest models we use in F5J
and ALES events. These are the Sport Class
models. The Soaring SIG have accepted
international rules that live on line along with
the automated timing methods and data
capture that comes with these. This means a
pilot can pretty much compete with a
worldwide fraternity of like minded modellers
without needing a witness or timer as all this is
taken care of by capturing the data about the
flight coming off the models into an internet
based system. Pretty fancy huh?

Kevin took the opportunity to set the first Sport
Class record at 14 Laps of the triangular
course. I’m sure there will be many more. Well
done Kevin, keep them coming. This is and example of the recording data coming off Kevin’s model. Amazing.
November to go, there is real chance we will crack 1000 entries this
National Decentralised Contest (NDC) year for first time. Well done everyone.
NDC has been going gangbusters this year.
