Day 2 of the competition came around, bringing, surprise, third and Seth Huntingford as the junior member. And they
surprise, more strong winds. We completed round 3 and 4 got presented with their shiny, canary yellow team hats.
of the competition, we found it was a little harder to make
the big scores. I dropped to 3rd, Sean stayed in 5th. The next day we said our goodbyes and started making
our long journey home. Although we enjoyed the
The first two days were the preliminary rounds, so it competition, despite the wind, our highlight was to have
amped up for the final on day 3. We could drop one round spent time with our ‘Australian family’, and we always feel
of the four preliminary flights, so the score was an average right at home.
of the best 3 flights to carry. Weather was looking dodgy,
stronger winds again, and some rain was forecasted. At
the end of the first round of F, Sean and I were only
separated by two points. Sean was flying very well,
showing how F can be flown in the wind. At the end of the
first round, I placed 4th in the F round, with Sean placing
3rd. With Aaron leading the way, and Shayne second.
The wind sock continued to be horizontal throughout the
day, showing no signs of the wind calming down. With
some rain falling, the flying had to be put on hold. So,
everyone went to the hangar for a meeting with the
    committee, to discuss the options.

With much deliberation, it was decided at the risk of
potential rain, to cancel the last round. As soon as they
cancelled the round, the rain stopped and sun came out.

At the end of the day with prizegiving. The kiwis finished
very well in the results, I came 3rd, and Sean close behind
on fourth. We were also glad to see Brian Dooley, expat
kiwi, flying solidly at 7th in the F3A P class. The Aussie
team was named for the American World Champs, with
Aaron Garle first, Shayne Lysaght second, Rod O’Neil
