YOUNG BLOOD INITIATIVE

Taking Flight at Highbrook Aero Modellers Club

Model Flying New Zealand (MFNZ) has embarked on an exciting
journey with its Young Blood Initiative. (YBI) Along with
collaboration from Highbrook Aero Modellers (HAM), this program
aims to nurture the next generation of aviators by providing them
with hands-on experience and invaluable mentorship.

Introduction to the Program
YBI is a collaborative effort between MFNZ and the University of
Auckland, leveraging the expertise of seasoned instructors from HAM.
The primary objective? To equip university students with the skills and
qualifications necessary to earn their WINGS certification.

Through a blend of theoretical knowledge, virtual simulation and
practical training, participants delve into the intricacies of model aircraft
construction, flight principles, and safety protocols. Under the guidance
of experienced mentors, these aspiring aviators take to the skies,
honing their piloting skills.

Progress and Achievements
Since its inception, YBI has witnessed remarkable progress and with
each flight, they inch closer to achieving their WINGS certification, a
testament to their dedication and determination. Just within a handful of
flights some of the students are close to sitting their WINGS
qualification.

The Cereal Bomber Competition: A Test of Skill
As the program gains momentum, anticipation mounts for the much-
awaited "Cereal Bomber" competition, slated to take place later this
year at HAM. This thrilling event serves as the ultimate test of model
building and flying skills for university students.

Participants will design and construct their aircraft, to ensure optimal
performance. Then, with precision and accuracy, they will aim to drop
payloads onto designated targets, showcasing their proficiency in both
engineering, craftsmanship and piloting.

The Cereal Bomber competition not only challenges participants to
push the boundaries of their abilities but also serves as a celebration of
creativity, innovation, and the sheer joy of flight.
